Description
Our new upholstery course offers you the chance to finally get round to upgrading that chair you’ve rescued from the charity shop!
Over five days in February, you’ll work on your own project – and learn techniques for either modern or traditional upholstery, depending on the type of chair you want to work on. You will learn how to accurately take measurements of your chair and make a pattern, strip your chair, treat the wood, make up new padding and stuffing, and learn upholstery stitching techniques to ensure your new fabric stands the test of time and looks great on your chair.
Upholstery, especially traditional, is quite slow-going, but you should be able to get either a small armchair, drop-in chair or footstool completed within five days.
If you need advice on what type of chair to bring in, please email us at art@racc.ac.uk, or alternatively you can email us a photo of your chosen project to check it is suitable.
Please wear sturdy shoes with thick soles as there may be tacks on the floor, and clothes you don’t mind getting dusty. Please bring a notebook, pen or pencil and something to photograph your project with – a camera phone is fine. If you want to bring your chosen fabric for the chair you can, alternatively if you want to wait for advice from the tutor on the first day, you can order some specific upholstery fabric which could arrive the next day, or you can source some yourself during the week.
All materials provided except top fabric covering and trimmings.

New intensive Upholstery course in Richmond during Feb half term
Agree with this article, very informative. We can make our Upholstery looks like new by just changing fabric. Fabric quality and colors are also very important. I have just visited Rana Textiles Mills website and found beautiful and quality oriented fabric for upholstery over there. You can Buy Best Upholstery Fabric from here.
