Kate Papi of OBRA theatre will lead a 2-day workshop to share OBRA’s approach to actor training and performance. OBRA make theatre rooted in the relationship between language and the physical life of the performer, adapting texts not originally destined for the stage to create innovative theatre for modern audiences. 

At the heart of OBRA’s practice is an approach that is rigorous whilst playful; their rehearsal space invites performers to be exacting and engaged on all levels whilst working in a fully supported, relaxed and pleasurable creative atmosphere. 

This session will;

• Investigate flow state in relation to group and individual listening

• Improve core strength and flexibility and breath support

• Expand individual and group awareness and sensitivity

• Improve performer’s proprioception and physical articulation

• Develop understanding of vocal technique for placement and articulation of voice for text

• Explore understanding of meaning through working from the structure of language on a page

OBRA is an international theatre company based at the Au Brana centre in southern France; a farm they converted into an artistic residential space. OBRA is currently touring a large scale production of Ted Hughes’Gaudete. OBRA’s eight strong international ensemble interweave the visceral language of Hughes’ seminal work with intimate physicality and dynamic choreography, accompanied by a cinematic soundscape and live junkyard percussion.Gaudetewill tour the North of England in March 2017.

OBRA’s practice combines technical craftsmanship with psychophysical practice and heightened language. The company work in a Laboratory theatre model, creating through intensive research and investigation to develop their practice and generate a new approach to performance according to the needs of each text.
