Description
Friday 19th May 2017 6.30-9.30pm at Sadler’s Wells.
This masterclass will offer you the opportunity to get an overview of Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints which is a powerful physical approach to contemporary theatre training. We will learn ‘The Flow’ which is the baseline many of the exercises use and then go on to explore several Viewpoints exercises which offer an opportunity to develop ensemble skills through focussed improvisation. Finally, we’ll explore Viewpoints in application and discuss how this approach can support your work as performers, movement directors and theatre makers.
Teresa Izzard is a theatre /movement director and a somatic practitioner. She is a Laban/Bartenieff Certified Movement Analyst (LIMS ’07), a Dynamic Embodiment Practitioner and holds a PhD in Theatre Direction (Phillip Parsons Prize ’13). Teresa has trained with Anne Bogart’s SITI Company in Viewpoints, Suzuki and Composition. Teresa was the acting Head of Movement at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2014 and is now a Theatre Arts lecturer at Curtin University.
Alongside her work as a practitioner-academic she maintains an independent theatre practice. Her production of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s The Yellow Wallpaper was performed in late 2011 at The Blue Room Theatre in Perth to popular and critical acclaim. The adaptation (with Silvia Lehmann) was nominated for an Equity Award for Best New Play in 2013. Most recently Frankenstein: Some Assembly Required was the inaugural production of Feet First Collective which she founded in late 2015. An ambitious, immersive work it was commissioned by The Moores Building Art Gallery as part of the 2016 Fremantle Festival. She is a proud member of the inaugural Australian Directors Lab and in 2016 was selected for the inaugural Western Australian dramaturgy training with Playwriting Australia and The Blue Room Theatre.
