Description
Unincorporated collaborations launched The Mothership in Dorset in March 2016. This opportunity is for contemporary artists working in any media seeking the qualities of a secluded retreat and potential collaboration. The residencies can range in length from a weekend to six weeks and should explore the following themes: climate change/weather, rural social/political, land/agriculture and childhood/parenthood/the domestic sphere.
Artists are invited to work independently on a project of their own choice. Work will be selected on the basis of current practice and there are no expectations of a presentation, although this can be facilitated.
Residents will live and work in a large, purpose-built ‘eco-studio’ with wood fired heating, kitchenette, and a compost toilet and shower. It is suitable for families and groups, as well as individuals or couples. There is also the option of staying in the Buccaneer caravan for your residency, which best suits individuals or couples. The studio and caravan are located next door to the home of artist Anna Best, her children and several animals, embedded in an ancient wood in rural Dorset. It is situated on a bus route but ‘off the beaten track’ so artists can choose how isolated or uninterrupted they want to be.
This is an unfunded programme with a fee charged per person per week towards overheads. This is £100 per person per week for the studio, £50 for the caravan. Stays of less than a week will be £30 per night per person for the studio, £10 for the caravan. Negotiation is always possible and this sum may be substituted by contributing to communal tasks at £10 per hour.
Applications are open all year. Please visit http://ift.tt/2lxOfTo to read further information on the programme and how to apply.
