  • South East, Brighton

Description

Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival has a clear purpose: To inspire artists to be their most creative and to champion the power of the arts to enrich and change lives.

This purpose, coupled with our goal to produce great art in England’s city on the edge, positions Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival to play a leading role in seeking out, developing and providing the platform for artists who work on the edge, between mainstream disciplines and outside mainstream attention.

Having celebrated its 50th Festival in 2016, with record attendances and heightened profile, and being about to embark on a major redevelopment of its venues, catalyzing a transformation of the Royal Pavilion Estate. We are recruiting new Trustees to add to our board and help lead the organisation’s development.

In order to achieve a better balance of backgrounds, experiences and identities we are seeking women with national profile and experience and a deep understanding of the arts and cultural ecology of the United Kingdom. You will ideally represent the next generation, have experience as a cultural entrepreneur and be interested in developing our thinking around what it means to work on the edge and between established definitions. We anticipate you will be wanting to develop your approach to governance and training and mentorship will be offered as necessary.

The successful candidate(s) will be appointed by the Board and will be both a trustee under the Charities Act 2011 and a director under the Companies Act 2006. The job is voluntary and unpaid, although travel expenses can be reclaimed.

The Board’s principal role is to provide vision, policy and governance. This includes maintaining an overview of the organisation’s strategy and business planning activities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (particularly employment and health & safety), budget approval and monitoring of financial outcomes, recruitment (and management via the Chair) of the Chief Executive.

To apply, email your CV to trusteeappointments@brightondome.org and tell us why you would make a good Trustee.

Expression of interest deadline: 31 March 2017
