Description
Two years on from the fire that destroyed the Grand Hall, we reflect on the history of large public gatherings and celebrations in our building - why do we gather in large groups, what brings us together and why do we continue to need large spaces to congregate?
Speakers on the night:
Allegra Galvin, Director of the Quarterhouse, an arts centre in Folkestone, will discuss her research into the history of celebration and gatherings in the Grand Hall, and explore the role of civic buildings in bringing communities together.
Anna Beecher and Kirsty Harris have both been working on a creative community project, collecting an archive of memories of the Grand hall and the fire it suffered in 2015. They will discuss their experiences of collecting stories, participatory workshops, and the creation of poetry and a visual installation.
Tickets are free but advance booking is required as places are limited.
