Description

At a public meeting in 1977, the seeds were sown for a new organisation that would eventually become City Arts. In the months that followed,Nottingham Community Arts and Crafts Centrewas established in Hyson Green, at the site now occupied by New Art Exchange. The volunteer led organisation aimed to offer local crafts people the facilities to earn a living from their work.

It quickly evolved, working with members of the local community on projects including puppetry, street theatre, playschemes and murals. Over the next 40 yearsNottingham Community Artswould transform intoCity Arts– the organisation that you know (and love!) today.

Starting in September 2017, City Arts will embark on a programme of work and events to celebrate our 40 year heritage. We will delve into the organisation’s history, examine the powerful effects of taking part in the arts, share stories of our achievements and the lives we’ve touched, as well as exploring what the future might hold for community arts.

We will be releasing further details of our planned programme in the coming months. Join us in celebrating forty years of life changing art!

Do you have any memories you’d like to share?

We’d love to hear from you if you worked with, volunteered for or took part in any of City Arts activities over the last 40 years. Let us know how you were involved with the organisation, what it meant to you and what you’re doing now.
