Description

As the city celebrates its fiftieth anniversary, Digitalis, a new season of digital adventures in Milton Keynes Central Library, is set to re-imagine the city through a series of innovative art experiences from March to September this year.

Through a programme of city explorations, exhibitions, interactive experiments, the latest creative technology, workshops and talks for all, experience the Central Library and city through new eyes to discover and investigate how we see the world, understand our place in the universe at this moment, and how we can shape the future now.

The season started with the UK premiere of artist Andy Gracie’s digital installationDeep Data Prototype_3, which is situated in the Central Library until September. Andy's work replicates the conditions for life on other planets using live data from NASA's deep space probes. His work asks us to consider whether we will ever discover life on other planets and whether these planets might ever be colonised by humans.Deep Data Prototype_3presents a live experiment to evolve life that could survive on distant alien worlds.

Andy will be in residence in the Central Library throughout Spring and Summer 2017 to create a newly commissioned piece to be launched in August.

The season will see cutting-edge artists using the Library as a base, including Mythogeographer Phil Smith, whose urban explorations, will investigate the possibilities and development of mythologies and legends in such a young city with the help of the general public.

A series of workshops during the Spring bank holiday, July and August will invite all ages to explore and get curious, re-imagining Milton Keynes by exploring past, present and envisioning its future.  Become an architect, working with artists to contribute your own stories and ideas of a vision for the future through the latest technology.

Digitalis is delivered by media arts producers Threshold Studios in partnership with Milton Keynes Council, Milton Keynes Library and supported by Arts Council England.

Full programme to be announced soon.
