Description
Ines Rae's solo exhibition for work + play opens this Wednesday 7-9pm
Trained in Fine Art and currently Lecturer in Media Arts (Photography) at Plymouth University, Inés Rae’s work uses photography and text to explore representation, femininity, consumer culture and the everyday. Rae's work aims to analyse the labour of femininity in a contemporary photographic culture where this still remains largely invisible.
Publications include Kurl up n Dye, a monograph published by Wild Pansy Press, incorporating photographs and typography investigating the vernacular in British high street culture. A feature on the book was aired on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour and her research has led to a number of conference papers and articles exploring the photographic image in terms of the vernacular, cultural anthropology and material culture.
The show will run from Weds 12th to Sunday 16th, midday- 7pm Thurs, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Gallery Lock In will be running "Meet the Artist" on Thurs and Fri from 2pm where visitors will get the chance to meet Ines and Rae and discuss her work.
Curated by Gallery Lock In Director Beth Troakes and is part of Brighton Photo Fringe 2016.
