Description
The British Paraorchestra is the world’s first large-scale professional ensemble of disabled musicians, founded by British conductor Charles Hazlewood in 2012.
As part of the Portfolio programme, Sound and Music and the British Paraorchestra offer an opportunity for two composers to develop new small-scale works for the ensemble.
The Paraorchestra has a distinctive approach to collaborative working, and the selected composers will work closely with musicians from within the orchestra’s pool of players to develop pieces which showcase the group’s extraordinary abilities.
The residency will begin in January 2017. Two composers will be selected, and notified before the end of 2016.
