Description
Qalandiya International London Symposium
The Mosaic Rooms
226 Cromwell Road
2pm-5pm
Qalandiya International (QI) was founded in 2012 as a collaborative contemporary art event that takes place every two years in Palestinian cities and villages. This year Qalandiya International is expanding to include its programme beyond Palestine to reach Beirut, Amman and London.
Alongside the series of other projects taking place across different venues in London, The Mosaic Rooms will host a one day symposium bringing together a diverse group of architects, artists, filmmakers, academics and professionals discussing the theme ‘This Sea is Mine’. This theme will be an entry point for contemplating and exploring concepts of return and refuge in both Palestine and the region. Unpacked by the different participants, the sea will be a medium to navigate through as they seek to question their role within the complex political and economic situation in the region.
A selection of participants from the exhibition will present their work in form of Pecha Kucha presentation, which will open up the exploration of themes exhibited by a round-table discussion panel.
Pecha Kucha presentations:
Bisan Abu Eshie – London
Sarah Beddington – London
Nassos Hadjipapas – London
Judy Price – London
Naoko Takahashi – London
Mathew Beaumont – London
Andreas Christodoulou – London
Claire Humphreys – London
The symposium will be led by Palestine Regeneration Team (PART). Palestinian Regeneration Team (PART) is a design-led research group based in the UK. It aims to search for creative and responsive spatial possibilities in Palestine and beyond to heal the fractures caused by the fragmented geography. PART is involved in a wide range of speculative along with live design projects with local communities and NGOs. This year the team will be curating the Qalandiya International, London alongside their partners in Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon.
