Total Theatre Awards 2016 - Call for Peer Assessors

Description

Each year 50 peers from across the UK and international performance community come together in Edinburgh for 3 weeks to participate in a peer led, peer-to-peer critical dialogue around excellence and evolving form in contemporary performance.  This process is the Total Theatre Awards.

Developed for the benefit of artists, the sector and audiences, the Total Theatre Awards have over the last two decades, blazed a trail of recognition for independent artists and companies creating innovative, artist-led theatre and performance.

Resisting too narrow a definition of the term ‘total theatre’ the awards focus on artists and companies leading innovative work beyond the classical cannon and new writing – working within the fields of devised theatre, live art, visual performance, mime, puppetry, physical theatre, experimental theatre, dance, clown, circus, street, immersive, outdoor, site specific performance and more.

Assessors wanted:

The Total Theatre Awards are assessed and judged by two panels of presenters, critics, producers, academics, theatre makers and theatre workers.  The ‘Assessment’ panel is refreshed annually.  Collectively they view over 500 productions, over 1200 individual performances and engage in over 35 hours of dynamic and rigorous discussion and debate.

This call is for performance makers and theatre professionals of all levels of experience and background to be part of the 2016 Total Theatre Awards Assessment panel at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Assessors should be:

  • Responsible arts professionals committed to exploring excellence and identifying new trends in live performance.  They should have the ability to be objective and fair, open to new discoveries and willing to interrogate their own tastes and experiences.
  • Prepared to see a large number of eligible shows.
  • Expected to provide constructive feedback on each show at Assessment Meetings 8.00am-12.00pm on 8, 10, 12, 14 & 16 August and attend the Short-listing meeting on Wednesday 17 August 4-11pm.
