Description
Supporting dance artists to research and develop performance ideas and explore new artistic territory over the summer through studio residencies and commissions.
Choreodrome, The Place’s biennial research and development programme for British-based dance makers, returns for Monday 24 July – Sunday 24 September 2017. As well as free space to research and rehearse, the programme creates a diverse artistic community with regular opportunities for feedback, weekly lunches and demonstrations of work in process. In addition to this The Place has awarded commissions to 15 choreographers.
At the end of the summer there is an opportunity for some of the artists to perform their work in progress to a public audience in a season of studio performances called Touch Wood. This process enables the participants to further refine their project for the stage following feedback from the audience at the end of each session.
Eddie Nixon, Director of Theatre & Artist Development at The Place, said “Supporting artists to test, learn, to have the space and time to take risks, to explore the kernel of an idea that might in the future grow into something truly brilliant, is what our artist development programme is all about.”
