Reportage by the Sea - opportunities for reviewers

Description

Reportage by the Sea 17th Sept-15th October

Open to writers aged 18 and over, Reportage features two days of Masterclasses led by professional journalists, reviewers, and editors from leading publications including The Guardian, The Independent, NME, Private Eye, What’s On Stage, and Time Out who will teach necessary skills for crafting, editing and publishing work online and in print.

You’ll find out the right questions to ask, the language to use and what to look out for when interviewing cast and performers. You’ll learn how to draft reviews and will receive feedback from editorial support before submitting work to be published on the Reportage by the Sea blog. There’ll also be advice and practical help setting up a blog that can act as your online platform.

You’ll receive tickets to hone your reviewing skills with two evening review opportunities at the Shelley Theatre, and additional ‘drop in’ sessions are available for any additional help, advice or practice you may need. And once training is complete, you’ll be able to put these new skills into action, with free access to report on allocated live shows and events from the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival Programme.

During festival week, you’ll have access to editorial support via telephone hotline and email. Reporters will be issued Press Passes and shows will be allocated after group consultation, depending on availability of staff. Reportage by the Sea aims to cover as many events as possible during the festival. Participants must be available to cover shows between 8-15th October and be keen to report on as many events as possible.

Reviews of sufficient quality may be selected by Multi-Media Journalist (Features), Patrick Gough, from Bournemouth Daily Echo and Dorset Society Magazine, to be published in print.

Participants aged 30 and under will be eligible for the prestigious ‘Reportage by the Sea: Young Journalist of the Year’ award.

Price: £35/£27.50 concessions.
