Open Call: Ideas, projects and collaborations

“Social media increases loneliness and envy” – a Daily Telegraph headline screamed earlier this year when the University of Pittsburgh published one of the latest of many respected studies into the negative effect that loneliness can have upon our health and wellbeing. Why is this? In contrast, how might technology offer and facilitate meaningful social interaction and companionship? Does engagement in arts and culture alleviate the effects of loneliness? Can we develop new ways of connecting people via digital means?

We want to see and hear your creative response to the theme, The Lonely City. We’re offering a small bursary too.

This call is open to all technologists and digital makers currently working in the North East of England.We are looking for a simple piece; an idea, a sketch or a piece of work you haven’t shown yet.

Something that can start a conversation, spark a new idea or a better understanding of something you think more people should know about following the event theme. It might be a short film or animation, a slideshow, a drawing, a sketch, a piece of audio, written and/or spoken work. We are open to experimentation with the way work is shown and shared online.

There is a one-off fee of £150 (to include research and all stages of production). This is a micro-commission opportunity, reflected in the fee. 

To apply for the #HADADi bursary you must be available to present the work at #HADADi 11 July 5pm – 7pm at Gateshead’s Jam Jar Studios, 5 Mulgrave Terrace, NE8 1PQ
