wolves – a journey into psycho-physicality
CREATIVE SUMMER AT DANCE CITY, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE, 4TH – 8TH SEPTEMBER
state of grace brings their trademark artist development and training methodology to Dance City’s Creative Summer.
wolveswill seek to unlock the performative energy of participating artists through a frame-worked exploration of oral-tradition stories from around the world and the idea of magical transformation and an alter-ego made real: when the true you is released, what form does it take?
Using song, text, personal and collected stories, intense physicality and strong group support,wolveswill provide a powerful training base and proving-ground for individual and collective creativity - within the programme itself, and beyond.
Building from the creation of a unique physical and dramaturgical score, each artist will develop work to connect up to the collective group imagination, forming multiple, complex acts of contact, association and expression.
For a group of 12 artists, the training will take place across 5 days. Working hours will be from 9am – 5pm.
Artists will need to be available across the whole week and for all sessions (4 per day). Ideally suited to dancers, physical performers, actors and performer-musicians, the work is nevertheless inclusive of all artists of all levels of experience but will work from a strong and energetic physical base. state of grace is an inclusive organisation that positively welcomes diversity of all kinds.
At the end of the week, the group will present an informal sharing of training and made work to an invited audience.
Invite is by application. Through Dance City and Arts Council England support, the training is free of charge. Priority will be given to artists living and working in North East England and the wider North.
