5th Base Gallery are thrilled to be holding Athena Anastasiou’s debut solo show “Living Into Your Portrait” at their Brick Lane Gallery, from July 14th – July 15th, unveiling her collection of new paintings, limited edition prints and screening her Art Bio Film on the opening night.

Athena Anastasiou is an artist, photographer and founder of London’s Pop Up Art Collective Meet The Artists. M.T.A has represented over 100 emerging artists from London, across 5 events and recently collaborated with Creative Debuts in Shoreditch.

For this show, Athena was intrigued by how people can be oblivious to, or deny, their greatness; their capabilities, power and beauty. Living Into Your Portrait is about empowering people to see how exceptional they already really are, by showing them a mirror of themselves through paint.

Inspired by her family and close friend’s stories, Athena has created a series of portraits using thick expressive paint strokes and bold imagery. Her intention is to re-create her sitters through her vision of how she sees them, encouraging the sitter to see their true reflection from the painting. She invites them to live into that new reality and accept the path towards being who they already are.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Athena is a London artist based in Dalston. Her early roots are in music photography, with clients ranging from Abbey Road, The Roundhouse and Red Bull Studios. Now focusing on her art, she paints large scale vibrant portraits and other themes, while performing live art in various European cities.
