Wednesday 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th June (4 consecutive wednesdays in total)

7-9.30pm £170 (for the four wednesdays) including materials. 6 students maximum.

This workshop led by professional visual artist Blandine Bardeau is aimed at students wanting to explore mark-making, abstract art and painting/ drawing/ collage in an experimental, supportive environment. No previous experience needed just a willingness to explore and be surprised, this workshop is suitable for experienced artists as well as beginners.  We will use various exercises aimed at loosening and relaxing the expression, from simple bodywork exercises to “blind contour drawing”, in order to step away from the pressure of getting a "good result". The aim of the series of workshops is to start a creative process, helping students to learn how to research and what inspiration means, as well as the importance of looking and seeing, and how to start an artwork using different methods. It also aims to explore what it means to make abstract art, why it is a valuable thing to do and how it can benefit one´s own everyday life. Students will be invited to experiment, play and try out new things and to develop their own artistic language. This workshop aims to give the opportunity for students to be able to enjoy the act of mark making as a valuable process and as a form of meditation. Each student will leave the course with at least two finished artworks, and many exercise artworks.

Course Structure:

-Week One: Abstract drawing exercises, the myth of the "good result"; the art of looking and seeing, why make art and abstract art at all?

-Week Two: The art of research, explore what makes you tick, prepare mixed-media collage materials

-Week Three: How to start an artwork using different methods

-Week Four: Continuation of artwork making from previous week and end of the workshop discussions, peer sharing
