Description

We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Marcel Duchamp's 'Fountain', the 200th anniversary of Armitage Shanks in the year that Hull becomes City of Culture. To mark the occasion we are setting a challenge to artists, writers and designers to respond to Duchamp's intervention one hundred years on.

We have no preconceptions as to how producers might respond. We are interested in ideas that transform an actual urinal (provided by Armitage Shanks) as well as responses in other media.

We are inviting proposals by 15th July 2016. Selected artists will receive a bursay of £500, a urinal if required and a chance to work at the Armitage factory. We welcome proposals from emerging and established artists.

From 1st April 2017 there will be a series of exhibitions starting in Hull before travelling to London, York and Stoke.
