Description
ASUNDER major commemorative WW1 centenary event
Asunder is a film by artist and filmmaker Esther Johnson, with a newly composed score by Sunderland’s Mercury-nominated Field Music and Newcastle’s Warm Digits, who will perform live with the Royal Northern Sinfonia and The Cornshed Sisters. The conductor is Hugh Brunt from the London Contemporary Orchestra.
Using archive and contemporary footage and audio, Asunder tells the story of what happened to a quintessential British town during the First World War. The film reveals the stories of people from Tyneside and Wearside to uncover what life was like on the home front and Western front. The project has a focus on 1916 and will commemorate 100 years since the Battle of the Somme.
The narration for the film is voiced by esteemed journalist Kate Adie, with the actor Alun Armstrong as the voice of the Sunderland Daily Echo & Shipping Gazette. The creative producer is Bob Stanley, founder-member of Saint Etienne, and writer of 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop'.
The premiere with live performance will take place on 10 July 2016 at the Sunderland Empire. The film/music event is supported by many other connected activities on the day.
