"Listening Sculpture" competition launched

Description

Listening to a misused, abused, stream

The Friends of Bradford's Becks are holding an open competition to select an artist to create a listening sculpture so that the Beck, buried in a culvert beneath the city streets, can be heard flowing. The competition for the design has a prize of £2000. Funding will then be provided to realize the work which the winner will be given a contract to complete.

This is an opportunity for an artist to design and deliver a permanent public artwork in a prime city centre site. The work will be visually engaging, generating empathy for the imprisoned Beck and also reflecting Bradford's pride and history. This opportunity is open to artists working with materials suitable for permanent outdoor artworks that require minimum maintenance. Full support is available for the acoustic design.
